Zagrieb, Croatia (Top Heavyweights) — Heavyweight boxing has a new undefeated contender in a division already stacked with talent. On Sunday night Croatian heavyweight Flip Hrgović 6-0 (5 KOs) scored a dominant 3rd round KO over well-respected American knockout artist Amir Mansour 23-3 (16 KOs) in a bout aptly named "The Homecoming" for the WBC International Heavyweight Title.

A lot was on the line as original opponent Gary Cornish was replaced by American Mansour, an avoided heavyweight, considered a far greater threat and perhaps even the favourite.

However by the first round it was clear Mansour had his hands more than full as Hrgovic calmly stalked his opponent with sharp hooks and solid jabs, while at the same time staying out of harms way. Mansour did try to mount his own considerable offence, but it was to no avail as the 2016 Olympic Bronze Medalist simply controlled the distance and threw enough hard leather to keep the veteran off balance and wary.

By the third round it became only a question of time as the same pattern lead to 2 knockdowns, the second being final as Mansour took the full count on a knee, unable to continue. Mansour wasn't badly hurt, but he was soundly beaten and victory celebrations at Zagreb Arena and all over Croatia were well in order.

This emphatic a victory after only 6 professional bouts puts Hrgović's well ahead of a deep pool of undefeated heavyweight prospects. Voices within his camp are already taking about a world title challenge after 4 or 5 more bouts. His performance was that impressive.

The future for Hrgović looks bright indeed.
