Tony Tubbs is the older brother of heavyweight boxer Nate Tubbs and the father of cruiserweight boxer Antwaun Taylor.

Amateur Career

• Compiled an amateur record of 240-13.
• Defeated Greg Page, Marvis Frazier, Jimmy Clark and Mitch Green as an amateur.
• 1978 World Amateur Championships heavyweight quarterfinalist in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. His results were:
• Defeated Istvan Levai (Hungary) 5-0
• Lost to Teofilo Stevenson (Cuba) 0-5
• 1979 AAU national heavyweight champion, outpointing Phillip Brown in the final.
• 1979 World Cup heavyweight gold medalist in New York City. His results were:

Professional Career

• Defeated Greg Page by a 15-round unanimous decision to win the WBA heavyweight championship on April 29, 1985.
• Lost the WBA heavyweight championship to Tim Witherspoon by a 15-round majority decision on January 17, 1986. Tubbs weighed 229 pounds when he won the title, and he was criticized for going into his first title defense against Witherspoon at 244.
• Fought Mike Tyson for the WBA/WBC/IBF heavyweight championship on March 21, 1988, and lost by a second-round TKO. The promoter offered Tubbs an additional $50,000 if he weighed less than 235 pounds for the fight. He weighed 238¼.
