Alexis Barrière Stops Stan Surmacz in Four in Montréal
Montréal, Quebec, Canada – Alexis Barrière dropped Stan Surmacz twice and stopped him in the fourth round on Wednesday night, taking the IBF North American and WBO NABO heavyweight titles at the Cabaret du Casino de Montréal.
The referee intervened at 2:04 of round four, shortly after Surmacz’s second trip to the canvas. Barrière improved to 14–1 (12 KOs); the Albertan fell to 14–2 (9 KOs).
Barrière kept the pressure on in the main event of I-BOX Promotions’ card, getting the better of the boxing before his combinations began putting Surmacz down. He worked to the head and body, making the punishment accumulate rather than relying on a single big punch.
The first knockdown came in the third. Surmacz got through the round, but Barrière sent him down again in the fourth with another series of punches upstairs and downstairs. This time there would be no escape to the next round. The referee brought the scheduled ten-round bout to an end.

For the 31-year-old from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, it was a convincing night’s work and another step back from his stoppage defeat to Guido Vianello in Philadelphia last October. He has now followed his win over Robert Simms with a second successive stoppage.
The two regional belts should help Barrière’s push for a place in the IBF and WBO rankings. More immediately, he left little doubt about the gap between the two men in Montréal.
