Miami, FL, USA - Murat Gassiev (32-2, 25 KOs) returned to the ring with a seventh-round stoppage win over Jeremiah Milton (11-2, 7 KOs) at the Miccosukee Indian Gaming Resort in Miami. While the former cruiserweight world champion got the result he needed, the bout itself was a slow, tactical affair that ended under unusual circumstances when the doctor kept Milton from coming out for the seventh round.

A Tentative Start

The opening rounds saw Milton flicking out jabs and staying active enough to win the first round on activity alone, but without landing much clean. Gassiev remained composed, blocking well and slowly warming into the fight.

Gassiev Finds His Rhythm

From the second round onward, Gassiev began sneaking in hard shots — notably a solid jab and a few well-timed rights to the body and head. Milton kept throwing, but his punches lacked sharpness, and he appeared to tire as early as the third. Gassiev’s heavier shots, especially a left hook late in Round 3, hinted at the gap in class.

By the fourth and fifth, Gassiev was applying more pressure and landing the cleaner blows, including rights over the top and digging body shots. Milton looked stuck in “opponent mode” and his offense slowed considerably.

The Finish

Round 6 saw Gassiev pressing harder, landing a right uppercut inside, though neither man landed much clean in the exchanges. When the bell ended the round, Milton returned to his corner, spoke with the doctor and referee, and it was decided he should not continue. He remained on his feet, but the fight was waved off, giving Gassiev the TKO victory.

What’s Next

While Gassiev keeps his place as a legitimate top-20 heavyweight and stays active with another win, the performance lacked the explosive finish many expected. For Milton, who came in as a late replacement, this marks a second setback in 2025 and further diminishes his stock — though he may point to short notice and conditioning as factors.
