Deep on the undercard of the Wilder-Helenius on Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn New York,  Heavyweight Gurgen Hovhannisyan 3-0 (3 KOs) delivered what has to be considered an impressive fourth win over previous prospect Michael Polite Coffie. The Armenian came out with good combinations and was mixing up his punches and showing the willingness to trade on the inside and outside. Coffie had no answers against the undefeated prospect from Yerevan, who’s solid amateur background was showing. While landing the occasional thudding blow, the former marine was unable to rattle the young Armenian.

By the end of the sixth round it had become clear that Hovhannisyan had Coffie’s number and the New York State athletic commission made the decision to stop the fight before the seventh round seeing no way for Coffie, already cut and bruised, to overcome the deficit on the scorecards and the gap in skill between him and the young prospect.

Big things can be expected from Hovhannisyan based on this performance and the fact that as a 4-0 (4 KOs) Heavyweight, he has already faced tougher competition that many of his peers in the 10 to 15 fight range.

Armenia has a new hero and with Hovhannisyan being the only active heavyweight from his country, it'll be interesting to follow his progress. He is also trained by Joe Goosen, a highly reputable American trainer who has also worked with some of boxing’s biggest stars. After Saturday's win Hovhannisyan is ranked #48 in the world by BoxRec.
