Gerald Washington reached a WBC heavyweight title challenge after serving in the United States Navy and playing college football at USC. He turned professional at 30 in 2012, using his size, athleticism and jab to build an unbeaten run.
Wins over Jerry Forrest, Eddie Chambers and Ray Austin, along with a draw against Amir Mansour, brought him to a February 2017 challenge against Deontay Wilder. Washington competed well early, but Wilder stopped him in the fifth round.
Contender wins and setbacks
Defeats to Jarrell Miller and Adam Kownacki followed. Washington then stopped Robert Helenius in the eighth round in July 2019, one of his best victories.
Charles Martin, Ali Eren Demirezen and Derek Chisora beat him in later contests. Washington returned with a win over Carlos Eduardo Cardenas Ramirez in March 2025, before Kingsley Ibeh stopped him in the third round in San Salvador on September 20.
Washington is 21–7–1 (14 KOs), with no next fight announced.
