London, UK - Lawrence Okolie returned to heavyweight action Saturday night with a methodical, risk-averse performance, defeating Kevin Lerena via unanimous decision in the co-main event at Wembley Stadium.
The judges scored it 99–91, 100–90, 100–90, all in favor of Okolie, who used his reach, footwork, and jab to control range for ten rounds. It wasn’t a fan-pleaser, but it was a clean, professional showing — the kind that protects rankings and sets up bigger things to come.
From the opening bell, Okolie fought to a plan — controlling distance with his long lead hand and never letting Lerena settle into range. Lerena, a southpaw, showed toughness but little offensive output, often falling short with his jab and smothered in the clinch when he tried to get close.
Okolie landed several sharp rights, including body shots and straight shots down the middle, but never pushed the tempo or risked overcommitting. When Lerena did sneak in a clean shot — notably a left hand in Rounds 6 and 9 — Okolie responded with movement and clinches, never letting the fight get messy.
The crowd grew restless at times, as the bout never caught fire. But Okolie’s discipline and control left no doubt on the cards.

With the win, Okolie continues building his presence at heavyweight, adding experience and another W while preserving his WBC ranking. While the performance wasn’t explosive, it was professional — and it keeps him in line for a possible world title shot down the road.
Lerena, despite moments of success, was ineffective throughout. He showed durability and fitness but never posed a consistent threat, and will likely have to recalibrate his path forward in the division.
“Styles make fights — and tonight, Okolie made sure his style dictated every minute,” one ringside observer said.
