Heavyweight Boxing
London, England, UK - The heavyweight division gets another intriguing domestic clash on November 15 when Richard “The Midnight Train” Riakporhe meets unbeaten prospect Tommy “Hell Boy” Welch at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on the Eubank-Benn undercard.
On paper, it’s a crossroads fight. For Riakporhe, it’s a confirmation that he belongs among the big men after a decorated run at cruiserweight. For Welch, it’s the first leap from prospect to contender — a proving ground against a seasoned, world-class puncher.
Richard Riakporhe 18-1 (14 KOs) has already lived several boxing lives. Once a street-level story of redemption, he carved out a successful cruiserweight career before coming up short against Chris Billam-Smith for the WBO world title in 2024.
Now campaigning at heavyweight, the 6′5″ Londoner looks stronger, more composed, and more dangerous. His first outing in the new division — a short night against Kevin Nicolás Espindola — showed that his trademark straight right still detonates just as hard at 235 pounds.
Tommy Welch 16-0, (9 KOs) is the son of former WBO title challenger Scott “The Brighton Rock” Welch, and he’s been built carefully since turning pro in 2020. Solid, tidy, and patient, he’s passed every test put in front of him — but he’s never faced an opponent with Riakporhe’s combination of size, athleticism, and composure.

Riakporhe will enter the ring taller, longer, and far more experienced at the highest level. He’s boxed on pay-per-view cards, headlined arenas, and knows the rhythm of big-event pressure.
Welch has been active and professional, but this is his first real test beyond domestic journeymen. His compact 6′3″ frame and patient style could serve him well in exchanges, yet he’ll have to walk through heavy artillery to reach Riakporhe’s chest.
If he can survive the early storm, he might make the later rounds interesting. But Riakporhe’s jab-right hand combination, delivered with timing and precision, remains one of the most dangerous weapons in British boxing.
Expect Riakporhe to start measured — controlling range behind his jab, dropping right hands when Welch tries to close the gap. The younger man will look to slip inside and invest in the body, but Riakporhe’s discipline and leverage should tell quickly.
The bout is scheduled for 10 rounds, though it may not last that long. Riakporhe’s accuracy and patience tend to break opponents down once he finds his range. A stoppage between Rounds 4 and 6 would surprise few observers.
For Riakporhe, a convincing win reinforces his heavyweight credentials and sets up a 2026 run at the British or European title level. He’s made it clear he wants the likes of Fabio Wardley or Frazer Clarke next.
For Welch, simply going rounds with Riakporhe could elevate his stock. A strong showing — even in defeat — proves he belongs in the conversation among Britain’s next wave of heavyweights.
Riakporhe by KO 6.
Experience, reach, and world-class power should be decisive. Welch is durable and brave, but Riakporhe’s timing, composure, and clean shot delivery make him a clear favorite.
