Zhilei Zhang, the WBO interim-heavyweight champion, recently spoke to Chinese media representatives in New York City about his upcoming rematch with fellow Olympic silver medalist Joe Joyce.

The rematch between Zhang and Joyce is scheduled for September 23rd at the Wembley Arena in London, Joyce's hometown. The fight will be broadcast live in the US on ESPN+, in China on Douyin, and in the UK on TNT Sports.

Zhang provided an update on his training camp, highlighting the quality of sparring partners he's been working with. He mentioned Alonzo Neal, a 2023 National Golden Gloves finalist; Dmytro Bezus, a 10-1 professional boxer with significant power; and Mariusz Wach, a veteran heavyweight who has faced top competition. Zhang emphasized that he's prepared for Joyce's activity and power based on his sparring experiences.

Zhang became the WBO interim-heavyweight champion in April by stopping the previously unbeaten Joyce in the sixth round. Joyce's severe swelling from Zhang's left hands led to the fight being stopped by the ringside doctor. Despite hoping to challenge WBC champion Tyson Fury, Zhang had to grant Joyce a rematch as per their contract.

Zhang expressed confidence in facing Joyce again, noting that he's already made history and is ready to do so again on September 23rd. His trainer, former light heavyweight and cruiserweight Shaun George, stated that Zhang's camp is going well and they are preparing to adjust to whatever Joyce brings to the rematch.

Zhang also shared his thoughts on Oleksandr Usyk's recent heavyweight title fight against Daniel Dubois. Zhang watched the fight and sympathized with Usyk regarding a controversial low blow ruling that gave Usyk time to recover. He criticized Dubois for not capitalizing on his physical advantages and suggested that Dubois needs to work on his heart.
