Mourad Aliev Outpoints Umut Camkiran Before Post-Fight Brawl
Istanbul, Turkey - Mourad Aliev took the vacant WBC Silver heavyweight title with a twelve-round points win over Umut Camkıran at Ülker Sports Arena on Saturday, before a brawl after the final bell overshadowed the result.
Aliev improved to 16-1 (11 KOs), while Camkıran suffered his first professional defeat, dropping to 25-1 (23 KOs).
It was a fight of distance against pressure, with the taller French southpaw doing enough from outside to frustrate Camkıran’s attempts to get close. Turkish outlet Fightboks reported that Aliev swept the opening four rounds on all three cards, working behind his jab as Camkıran struggled to bring his hooks into range.
The same report described a point deduction against Camkıran for punching after the fifth-round bell. Aliev’s pace faded in the second half, but frequent clinches broke up the Turkish heavyweight’s efforts to build momentum. Camkıran kept pressing for a finish that never came.
Aliev had secured a useful win, rather than an eye-catching performance. The Silver belt is a secondary WBC title, but beating an unbeaten opponent away from home gives him something to build on following his defeat to Labinot Xhoxhaj last year.
Disorder after the bell
The trouble began after the fight, before the decision was announced. Footage released by ProBox TV showed a mass confrontation in the ring involving numerous people. The precise circumstances behind the disturbance remain unclear.
