Agit Kabayel Elevated to Full WBC Heavyweight Title Holder

Bochum, Germany - Following Oleksandr Usyk's decision to relinquish his remaining world heavyweight titles, the World Boxing Council has elevated previously unbeaten German contender Agit Kabayel from interim champion to full WBC Heavyweight Champion of the World. Usyk announced Friday that he was vacating the WBC, WBA and IBF championships ahead of what he has described as his "last dance," while making clear that he is not yet retiring from boxing.

Kabayel's promotion comes after a remarkable run over the past 18 months. The 33-year-old captured the interim WBC title with an impressive stoppage of Zhilei Zhang before successfully defending it against previously unbeaten Polish contender Damian Knyba. Those victories cemented his position as the WBC's mandatory challenger and left him first in line should Usyk vacate the championship.

For Kabayel, the elevation represents the culmination of a patient climb through the heavyweight ranks. Long regarded as one of the division's most avoided contenders, he now holds one of boxing's four recognized world heavyweight championships and becomes Germany's first full heavyweight world champion in years.

With the belt now officially around Kabayel's waist, attention immediately shifts to his first title defense. Several leading contenders—including Tyson Fury—have already been linked to the newly crowned champion, although the WBC has yet to announce his mandatory obligations or next opponent.
