Oleksandr Usyk has voluntarily vacated his heavyweight world titles, ending his championship reign and opening the door for a new generation of contenders.
Agit Kabayel’s rise has been steady rather than spectacular from the outset. The unbeaten German won the European title against Hervé Hubeaux in 2017 and defended it with a majority-decision victory over Derek Chisora in Monte Carlo. A later win over Agron Smakici brought him another European championship.
Kabayel is at his best when he can keep an opponent working, change the distance and attack the body. Those qualities took him from European competition into the world-title picture.
A Run of Major Victories
He stopped Arslanbek Makhmudov in four rounds in December 2023 and Frank Sanchez in seven the following May, ending both men’s unbeaten records. In February 2025, he recovered from a knockdown to knock out Zhilei Zhang in round six and win the WBC interim title.
A third-round stoppage of Damian Knyba in Oberhausen followed in January 2026. The WBC recognised Kabayel as its full heavyweight champion on June 27 after the title became vacant.
Kabayel is 27–0 (19 KOs). He is scheduled to defend against Nelson Hysa at Düsseldorf’s Merkur Spiel-Arena on November 28, 2026, live on DAZN.
