Koszalin, Poland - The search for Poland's next leading heavyweight will take center stage on October 3 when Kacper Meyna and Damian Knyba square off in the main event of KAPEO Rocky Boxing Night in Koszalin, Poland.

Kacper Meyna and Damian Knyba meet on October 3 in Koszalin with the Polish Heavyweight Championship and WBC Baltic title at stake.

With both men entering the contest sporting identical 17-1 (11 KOs) professional records, the bout represents one of the most meaningful all-Polish heavyweight clashes in recent years. The Republic of Poland Heavyweight Championship and WBC Baltic Heavyweight title are expected to be on the line, adding further significance to a fight that could elevate the winner toward the upper tier of the international rankings.

For years, Poland produced a steady stream of respected heavyweight talent. Fighters such as Tomasz Adamek, Mariusz Wach and Adam Kownacki all enjoyed success on the international stage, but that generation has largely moved on. Now, Meyna and Knyba have an opportunity to establish themselves as the country's premier active heavyweight.

Neither fighter enters the contest as a leading world contender. Instead, both find themselves hovering around the world's top forty, knowing that a convincing victory could propel them into the top thirty and place them firmly on the radar for significantly bigger opportunities.

Knyba Looking to Rebound

For Damian Knyba, the fight represents the next chapter following the first defeat of his professional career.

Standing 6-foot-7 with an 86-inch reach, Knyba spent much of his professional development in the United States, building his résumé under the Top Rank banner. His patient style, educated jab and imposing physical dimensions helped him compile an unbeaten record while defeating experienced opponents including Joey Dawejko, Andrzej Wawrzyk and Marcin Siwy.

Earlier this year, Knyba accepted the biggest challenge of his career when he faced unbeaten Agit Kabayel for the WBC Interim Heavyweight Championship.

Although ultimately stopped in the third round, Knyba enjoyed moments of success during the opening stages, landing quality punches and opening a cut over Kabayel's eye before the German contender gradually increased the pressure.

The defeat ended Knyba's unbeaten record, but it also provided invaluable experience against one of the world's elite heavyweights. Now 17-1, the Polish giant has an immediate opportunity to demonstrate that his long-term development remains very much on track.

Meyna's Steady Rise

Standing opposite him will be arguably the strongest domestic opponent available.

Kacper Meyna has quietly pieced together one of the most consistent résumés in Polish heavyweight boxing over the past several years. After suffering the lone defeat of his professional career in 2021, Meyna responded by winning twelve consecutive fights while capturing domestic and regional honours.

His breakthrough moment arrived in March 2024 when he stopped former world contender Adam Kownacki in just 45 seconds.

While Kownacki had clearly declined from the heavyweight who once stood among the world's leading contenders, Meyna's emphatic victory effectively brought the former contender's career to a close and established Meyna as one of Poland's leading active heavyweights.

He followed that performance with perhaps an even more telling victory—a composed unanimous decision over veteran Mariusz Wach. Rather than relying solely on power, Meyna boxed intelligently over ten rounds against one of Poland's toughest and most durable heavyweights, demonstrating continued maturity as a professional.

A Familiar Setting

The choice of Koszalin may also work in Meyna's favour.

Although not his hometown, Koszalin has become closely associated with the biggest victory of his career following his quick stoppage of Kownacki. Fighting once again in front of a supportive Polish crowd should provide a comfortable environment for the 26-year-old as he prepares for the biggest test of his career.

Knyba, meanwhile, has spent much of the past several years campaigning in the United States and returns home looking to spoil the occasion.

An Interesting Style Matchup

The stylistic contrast makes this fight particularly intriguing.

Knyba enjoys significant advantages in height and reach and is at his best when controlling distance behind a disciplined jab. He prefers a measured pace and looks to gradually break opponents down from long range.

Meyna, by comparison, is the shorter, more compact heavyweight who generally prefers to close the distance, work inside and force a more physical contest.

If Knyba establishes his range early, his size and technical boxing could allow him to dictate the action.

If Meyna consistently slips inside that long reach and turns the bout into a high-pressure battle, he may succeed in dragging Knyba into unfamiliar territory.

Everything to Gain

The stakes extend well beyond the belts on the line.

At 17-1 apiece, both fighters have reached an important stage of their careers. Neither is considered one of the division's hottest prospects, yet both remain firmly in the conversation as heavyweights capable of taking another significant step forward.

A convincing victory could move the winner into the world's top thirty while creating opportunities against established international opposition. Defeat, however, would almost certainly mean another period of rebuilding before another major opportunity presents itself.

A Defining Night for Polish Heavyweight Boxing

Meaningful domestic heavyweight matchups have become increasingly uncommon across Europe.

On October 3, Poland will have one.

Whether it is Meyna defending home soil or Knyba reasserting himself after his first professional setback, one thing appears certain: when the final bell rings in Koszalin, Poland's heavyweight landscape could look very different.

For both men, this may prove to be the defining fight of their careers.
