WORLD Heavyweight Boxing
Moscow, Russia - Arslan Yallyev delivered one of the strongest performances of his professional career on Saturday night, stopping previously unbeaten Murad "Champion" Khalidov in the third round at VTB Arena to announce himself as one of Russia's emerging heavyweight prospects.

Competing on the undercard of the WBA Heavyweight Championship between Murat Gassiev and Peter Kadiru at IBA PRO 19, Yallyev systematically broke down the experienced Khalidov before forcing a referee's stoppage after a sustained third-round assault.
The victory improved Yallyev to 18-1 (12 KOs), while Khalidov suffered the first defeat of his professional career, falling to 12-1 (6 KOs).
Khalidov entered the contest riding the momentum of impressive victories over Sergey Kuzmin and Jose Larduet and was expected to provide Yallyev with one of the toughest tests of his career.
Early on, the fight lived up to expectations.
Khalidov looked composed and enjoyed moments of success, landing solid punches of his own as he attempted to pressure the younger man. Yallyev, however, refused to remain stationary. Using constant movement, he repeatedly found openings with crisp straight shots up the middle while mixing in sharp punches around Khalidov's guard.
The cleaner, more accurate work consistently came from Yallyev.
The turning point arrived in the second round.
Yallyev connected with a well-timed combination that sent Khalidov to the canvas, scoring the bout's only knockdown and firmly swinging the momentum in his favor.
Although Khalidov rose and continued, the knockdown demonstrated Yallyev's growing confidence and precision as the fight progressed.
Yallyev continued to dictate the action in the third round, maintaining his movement while forcing Khalidov to absorb increasingly accurate punches.
As Khalidov retreated toward the corner, Yallyev unleashed a sustained barrage of unanswered shots. With Khalidov visibly hurt, stumbling and no longer defending himself effectively, the referee stepped in to halt the contest, awarding Yallyev a third-round technical knockout.
It was a decisive finish to what had become an increasingly one-sided fight.
The victory represents an important step forward for Yallyev.
After suffering the lone defeat of his career against Tony Yoka, the 29-year-old has now responded with one of the best wins of his professional career, defeating an unbeaten opponent who had entered the fight carrying considerable momentum.
For Khalidov, the loss brings an abrupt halt to an impressive resurgence that had seen the 37-year-old emerge as one of Russia's more intriguing heavyweight stories. Despite moments of success, he was unable to match Yallyev's speed, movement and precision over the opening three rounds.
Yallyev's composed, technically sound performance suggests he is ready for another step up in competition as he continues climbing the heavyweight ladder.
