Top Heavyweight Boxers in the World

Carlos Takam represented Cameroon at the 2004 Athens Olympics before turning professional in France in 2005. His compact build and willingness to work at close range carried him through a long career against leading heavyweights.

A draw with Mike Perez and a points win over Tony Thompson in 2014 helped establish him as an international contender. Defeats to Alexander Povetkin and Joseph Parker followed.

Joshua and the later career

Takam challenged Anthony Joshua for the unified heavyweight titles in Cardiff in October 2017. Joshua stopped him in the tenth round.

Later assignments included Derek Chisora, Joe Joyce and Arslanbek Makhmudov. Takam then beat Tony Yoka on points in Paris in March 2023, an important late-career victory.

Martin Bakole stopped him in the fourth round in Riyadh on October 28, 2023. Read the fight report. A later scheduled fight with Tom Schwarz was cancelled.

Takam is 40–8–1 (28 KOs). No next fight or retirement has been confirmed.
