Oxnard, California - In a surprising development ahead of his blockbuster rematch against Daniel Dubois, Oleksandr Usyk appears to have split from his longtime promoter Alex Krassyuk. The news emerged subtly but unmistakably through a reflective Instagram post from Krassyuk, who thanked Usyk for a “tremendous journey” that spanned over a decade and included multiple world titles across two weight divisions.

K2 PROMOTIONS promoter Alex Krassyuk has announced he will no longer be working with unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk - Boxing TV

“Two young dreamers met each other to change the game back in 2013,” Krassyuk wrote. “I gave you my word and kept it… Thank you for all we’ve gone through and for the honor to be the lifetime promoter of the double undisputed. May the Lord bless you and guide your next steps.”

While Krassyuk didn’t explicitly say the relationship was over, the tone and language strongly imply that the professional partnership has come to an end. The timing of the announcement—less than a month out from Usyk’s July 19 clash at Wembley with Dubois—has raised eyebrows in the boxing community.

A Run That Defined an Era

Together, Usyk and Krassyuk built one of the most decorated resumes in modern boxing:

  • September 2016 – WBO Cruiserweight Champion
  • July 2018 – Undisputed Cruiserweight Champion
  • September 2021 – Unified WBO, WBA, IBF Heavyweight Champion
  • May 2024 – Undisputed Heavyweight Champion

From his Olympic pedigree to his rise through the cruiserweight ranks and eventual conquest of the heavyweight division, Usyk’s ascent has been methodical, historic, and unusually unified in terms of team continuity—until now.

No Contract Since 2022?

Further intrigue came when Krassyuk responded to a fan’s comment alleging Usyk had declined to renew his contract with K2 Promotions. Krassyuk clarified that “we didn’t both have any [contract] since 2022,” suggesting the partnership had been running on trust rather than a formal agreement for some time.

This raises questions about whether financial disagreements or other tensions emerged behind the scenes—possibly around the split of revenue for the highly lucrative Dubois rematch. Such issues have derailed boxing partnerships before.

Oleksandr Usyk and longtime promoter Alex Krassyuk share a moment during their rise to the top — a partnership that spanned 12 years and two undisputed titles.

Turbulence or Tactic?

Speculation is already swirling. Could this be the sign of disarray in Team Usyk? Or is it a strategic, low-noise transition toward a new promotional phase in Usyk’s career? Fighters have occasionally made such moves late in their careers—Gennadiy Golovkin famously changed his training arrangement under financial pressure, opting to minimize percentages paid out from large purses.

Usyk, now 38, has fought most of his recent battles on foreign soil and under high-pressure conditions. He’s become a global road warrior, comfortable with logistical uncertainty—but his tight-knit team has remained largely unchanged for years. If Krassyuk’s departure is permanent, it would be the most significant personnel shift in Usyk’s camp since his early days.

Could It Matter in the Ring?

This looming change brings potential distractions. While Usyk has shown resilience and adaptability throughout his career, even minor cracks in camp cohesion can become magnified in big fights—especially when age, wear, and a hungry challenger are all in play.

Dubois is young, powerful, and determined to avenge his 2023 loss to Usyk. And while the Ukrainian remains a technical and tactical master, no elite fighter is immune to decline, especially in the heavyweight division where one shot can change everything.

If Usyk dominates as he has so often, this promotional split will likely be remembered as a footnote. But if the night turns sour, critics may point to this moment as the start of disruption within a once-seamless campaign.
