Giza, Egypt - Frank Sanchez 26-1 (19 KOs) scored a devastating second-round knockout over Richard Torrez Jr 14-1 (12 KOs) on Friday night, abruptly ending the unbeaten American’s rise in their 12-round IBF heavyweight final eliminator.

Frank Sanchez stopped unbeaten Richard Torrez Jr in Round 2 to move back into the IBF heavyweight title picture.

After a competitive opening round in which Torrez applied pressure and targeted the body, Sanchez produced the perfect counter early in Round 2 to dramatically change the fight.

Torrez was unable to recover from the shot and failed to beat the count.

Torrez Starts Fast

Torrez came out aggressively in the opening session, applying pressure and working toward Sanchez’s body — a clear nod to the successful blueprint Agit Kabayel used against the Cuban contender in 2024.

The American’s movement, feints, and body attack kept Sanchez occupied during much of the first round. Torrez also landed an eye-catching left hand in the closing seconds of the frame to secure early momentum.

Many observers gave Torrez the opening round 10-9.

Sanchez Finds the Perfect Counter

The fight changed instantly in Round 2.

Sanchez had already found success with the right hand before delivering the decisive punch. Early in the second session, he slid sharply to his left to create space for a perfectly timed counter right hand that landed flush on Torrez’s face.

Unlike the first round, Torrez was unable to move out of range in time.

The unbeaten American collapsed from the shot and could not beat the referee’s count.

Major Statement From Sanchez

The victory immediately restores Sanchez to serious contender status following questions that emerged after his stoppage loss to Agit Kabayel.

Coming into the eliminator, concerns surrounded Sanchez’s momentum, activity level, and overall sharpness. Those questions disappeared quickly with one explosive counter.

For Torrez, the defeat marks the first loss of his professional career and halts what had been growing momentum toward the top tier of the heavyweight division.

IBF Implications

With the victory, Sanchez places himself firmly back into the IBF heavyweight title picture and moves one step closer toward a potential world title opportunity.

The knockout also serves as a reminder that experience, timing, and precision remain dangerous weapons in the heavyweight division — especially against rising contenders still making the transition into elite-level competition.
