London, UK (December 16, 2023) - Ismael Salas, the trainer behind Joe Joyce's corner, remains steadfast in his belief that Joyce is still very much a contender in the top heavyweight title mix, despite the British boxer's recent back-to-back defeats to Zhilei Zhang from China.

Reflecting on Joyce's consecutive losses against Zhang, Salas, in a recent interview, emphasized the learning curve and growth that comes from setbacks in a boxer's career.

"In the heavyweight division, almost every great has suffered a loss. It's part of the journey. It's about learning from those experiences," Salas highlighted. "In our team, we believe in growth. Every setback is an opportunity to improve."

Salas acknowledged Zhang's skill in making pivotal adjustments during the rematch, effectively neutralizing the strategies that Joyce had worked on diligently in his camp.

"Zhang deserves credit for the adjustments he made. Styles make fights, and Zhang proved he can adapt," Salas praised. "Joe Joyce has an iron chin, but Zhang showcased his ability to adapt, and that's commendable."

Unfazed by the criticism and keeping a determined focus on progress, Salas revealed plans for Joyce's comeback in January, eyeing a potential clash with Daniel Dubois, a former opponent whom Joyce defeated in a 10-round showdown back in 2020.

"The Dubois rematch would be intriguing for both fighters," Salas expressed. However, Dubois is currently slated to face Jarrell Miller in Saudi Arabia next month, indicating that a rematch between Joyce and Dubois might have to wait a little longer.

With his eyes set on Joyce's return, Salas remains optimistic about the top heavyweight boxer's future, emphasizing the team's dedication to continual improvement and their readiness for whatever challenges lie ahead.

The trainer's belief in Joyce's potential hints at a determined resurgence for the British heavyweight, as they navigate the competitive landscape of the heavyweight division in pursuit of redemption and glory.
