Zhilei Zhang won super-heavyweight silver at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and returned to the Games in London four years later. The Chinese southpaw turned professional in 2014, building his career through bouts in the United States.
After a draw with Jerry Forrest, he lost a closely contested decision to Filip Hrgović in their August 2022 IBF eliminator. His biggest professional breakthrough came the following year.
Zhang stopped Joe Joyce in six rounds in April 2023 to win the WBO interim title, then knocked him out in round three of their rematch. His size, southpaw left hand and accuracy made him a difficult opponent for the previously unbeaten Joyce.
Joseph Parker took the interim belt with a decision in March 2024. Zhang returned with a fifth-round stoppage of Deontay Wilder, but Agit Kabayel knocked him out in round six in February 2025.
Zhang is 27–3–1 (22 KOs). His victories over Joyce and Wilder remain the strongest results of his professional career. No next fight has been confirmed.
